Cardholder Safety Tips

  1. A banking card is the key to cardholder's account(s). The card should never be "lent" to anyone, including friends and family.
  2. Cardholders should protect their Personal Identification Number (PIN), it is their electronic signature. They should memorize it and never write it down.
  3. Cardholders should never disclose their PIN to anyone.
  4. When selecting a PIN, cardholders should always avoid the obvious - e.g. their name, street number, telephone number, date of birth, etc.
  5. Cardholders should never let their banking card out of sight when conducting a transaction.
  6. Cardholders should always conduct transactions with their banking card when and where they feel most secure. If they are uncomfortable they should not use it.
  7. When conducting any transaction, cardholders should use their hand or body to shield their PIN.
  8. After completing a transaction, cardholders should remember to take their banking card and if provided, their transaction record.
  9. If their banking card is lost, stolen or retained by an ATM, cardholders should notify their financial institution immediately. Most institutions offer 1-800 telephone numbers and/or 24-hour service
  10. Cardholders should remember that their safety comes first. They should report any theft incident to the police and their financial institution.
