How We Help

From time to time, we'll feature one of the many worthy beneficiaries that our credit union or our foundation have chosen to support. This month, the focus is on the new Humber River Hospital in Toronto.

As the first fully digital hospital in North America, the new Humber River Hospital will stand as the Greater Toronto Area’s largest acute care hospital.

Slated to open in October 2015, this new state-of-the-art facility at Keele Street and Hwy 401will not only serve a catchment area of some 850,000 residents in a neighbourhood that is among the region’s most culturally diverse and economically challenged, it will also have a profound effect on the way health care is delivered across the country.

Highlights of the new Humber
• Increased capacity to 656 beds, including 48 critical care beds
• Expanded emergency services to accommodate over 107,000 visits per year
• Expanded ambulatory services, including more capacity for cancer care, orthopaedics, and geriatrics
• Patient-centred care with 80% single-patient rooms providing amenities for family members
• Modern diagnostics equipment for detailed, accurate patient diagnosis and treatment
• Portals of care for easy access and less walking within the building.

As a financial cooperative, community development is at the core of our value proposition, and Humber River Hospital occupies a special place in our collective consciousness. It is the hospital that has been serving our community for many, many years; a place where many of our children were born, and where many of our seniors continue to get the medical care that they need.

And so, on behalf of our community and our members, our credit union pledged its support with the hope that we may motivate others to follow. In May 2012, we committed to a $1 million donation over ten years towards the $225 million building campaign, which is also being chaired by Fausto Gaudio, our credit union’s president and CEO.
